The Underworld company began 1971 when a small aquatic shop in Loughborough, opened by D Keeley. Over the subsequent years, this shop expanded and grew, eventually moving premises as the business required the extra space. The expansion continued, and in 1976, D Keeley along with 3 partners, formed the division called ‘Underworld Products’ Their plan was to act as an importer and distributor of specialist aquarium products to the trade.
After 30 years of constant growth and expansion, increasing from the one-man/2,000sq.ft. of that original enterprise to 24 employees/21,000sq.ft. of the current business. The next big development to the company came in 1995, when it was agreed to extend into other pet areas in addition to the solid base established through aquatics. They started first with reptile products, then came birds, and most recently cats, dogs and other small animals!
